A former political manager named Jane (Sandra Bullock) has been retired for a few years after some particularly brutal campaign losses and a stint in a mental hospital. However, some very desperate campaign strategists decide to recruit her for a candidate in Bolivia. The presidential contender is a man named Castillo (Joaquim de Almeida) and isn't exactly well liked in the country, at least not by people who are familiar with his old political policies and it really seems like the guy has no chance based on his ratings compared to the other candidates. Jane decides to take the case for both monetary gain and to get back at a former rival of hers named Pat Candy (Billy Bob Thornton). It turns out Jane is pretty good at her job and she's willing to go to some extreme lengths to help her candidate win.
