Rather than looking at the Transatlantic Slave Trade from the perspective of an Evangelical abolitionist, it follows the life of one of the most famous victims of the trade: Olaudah Equiano, or Gustavus Vassa. Excerpts of his autobiography are used to interpret his childhood, whereas thought provoking music and images are used to suggest the emotional journey that Equiano (and all African-Carribbean people) would have gone through.
