Faust, a seasoned medical pupil, seeks to make his mark on this world through his study into the dark arts. In spite of the persistence of his partner, Gretchen, Faust thoughtlessly seeks his passion, unconcerned with the cost. He makes a deal with Mephistopheles, the human indication of wickedness, and also markets his heart to him "in order to make the globe a better place."
